Morning Movers 1/25: SMTX, NBS, ERI, KFS, PVTB, CADC Higher; PARD, SNEN, BBX, PCBC Lower

SMTC Corp. (Nasdaq: SMTX) 52.9% HIGHER; shares are continuing to breakout this week after crossing over the $1 level for the first time since October '08. Volume continues to be very heavy.

NeoStem, Inc. (Amex: NBS) 29.6% HIGHER; announced that it recently was advised that its Suzhou Erye Pharmaceutical subsidiary received approval as of November 6, 2009 from the State Food and Drug Administration in China to manufacture and sell omeprazole 20mg capsules.

Emrise Corp. (NYSE: ERI) 21.7% HIGHER; could be breaking out on technicals today. Volume is already about 16x the average daily volume.

Poniard Pharma (Nasdaq: PARD) 19.5% LOWER; downgraded to Sell at Canaccord Adams and downgraded to Market Perform at Leerink Swann.

Sinoenergy (Nasdaq: SNEN) 16% LOWER; sinking today although we are not hearing any company-specific news. The stock has fallen well below the $1.90/share bid made by Skywide Capital in mid-October of last year.

Kingsway Financial Services Inc. (NYSE: KFS) 15.7% HIGHER; has entered into a definitive purchase agreement with The Westaim Corporation pursuant to which, subject to the satisfaction of certain standard closing conditions, including receipt of the approval of the Minister of Finance (Canada), the Company will sell all of the issued and outstanding shares of Jevco Insurance Company to Westaim for an aggregate purchase price of approximately 94.5% of the book value of Jevco as at December 31, 2009, subject to adjustments.

PrivateBancorp, Inc. (NASDAQ: PVTB) 15.1% HIGHER; reports Q4 loss of $0.30, 1 cent better than the analyst estimate of $0.31. Net interest income was $99.56 million, compared to $59.15 million for the same period in 2008.

China Advanced Construction Materials Group, Inc. (Nasdaq: CADC) 14.1% HIGHER; today announced that the Company has signed a definitive contract to provide its ready-mix concrete service to the high-speed railway project between Xi'an and Ankang, the largest city in southern Shanxi Province. China ACM will provide technical counseling for the production of 270,000 cubic meters of ready-mix concrete. Click here to see the full report.

8x8 (Nasdaq: EGHT) 10.6% LOWER; the stock continues to pull back from 52-week high levels, set early in January. Volume is very heavy, but we are not hearing any news.

Silicom Ltd. (NASDAQ: SILC) 11.2% HIGHER; reports Q4 EPS of $0.19, compared to $0.24 in the same quarter last year. Revenue for the quarter was $6.82 million, versus $6.54 million in Q408.

Conexant (Nasdaq: CNXT) 11.2% HIGHER; continuing higher following Thursday's better-than-expected Q1 results. The stock jumped nearly 22% on Friday.

BankAtlantic Bancorp (NYSE: BBX) 10.6% LOWER; continuing lower this week. The stock fell 9% on Friday after rising nearly 14% on Thursday of last week.

PowerSecure International, Inc. (NASDAQ: POWR) 10.5% HIGHER; today announced a strong start to 2010 sales, with new business awards in late December and early January totaling approximately $35 million. This new business includes $15 million of contracts to install its smart grid Interactive Distributed Generation(R) power systems at hospitals, data centers, retail sites, industrial facilities, and utilities, and $20 million of new business from major grocery and drug retailers for the Company's EfficientLights(R) LED lighting technology. Keryx Biopharmaceuticals, Inc. (NASDAQ: KERX) 10.1% HIGHER; yesterday reported updated results on the clinical activity of KRX-0401 (perifosine), the Company's PI3K/Akt pathway inhibitor for cancer, in combination with capecitabine (Xeloda) as a treatment for advanced, metastatic colon cancer. Abstract #447, entitled, "Randomized phase II study of perifosine in combination with capecitabine versus capecitabine plus placebo in patients with second- or third-line metastatic colon cancer: Updated results," was presented yesterday in a poster during the 2010 American Society of Clinical Oncology Gastrointestinal Cancers Symposium, held in Orlando, Florida. Pacific Capital (Nasdaq: PCBC) 9.8% LOWER; continues to correct today following a 35% rise over the first half of last week. The stock fell 10% on Friday.

Medifast (NYSE: MED) 9.7% HIGHER; sees Q4 EPS of $0.17-$0.20, which compares to the Street estimate of $0.16, on sales of $44.6-$45.6 million, versus the consensus of $39.55 million. Sees FY09 EPS of $0.77-$0.80 on sales of $164-$165 million. The Street is currently looking for FY09 EPS and sales of $0.76 and $158.95 million, respectively.

SolarFun (Nasdaq: SOLF) 9% HIGHER; Collins Stewart upgrades the stock from Hold to Buy, also setting a $10 price target. Click here to see the full report.

Protalix (AMEX: PLX) 8.4% HIGHER; trading higher as the company presented Phase I results of a trial for its nerve gas drug. The company said this trial will likely be the last the company will have to carry out before its starts to sell the product. Further, an analyst at HalmanAldubi did a bullish report on the stock earlier.
