McCain's Big Surprise - Alaska's Sarah Palin Named VP Running Mate

August 29, 2008 11:43 AM EDT

According to various media reports, John McCain has picked Alaska Governor Sarah Palin as his vice-presidential running mate. Being relatively inexperienced and young (44) she brings some questions, but her positives can help solidify the republican base and bring some key swing votes from women and those worried about energy.

Palin is pro-life, which is crucial for the evangelicals. In fact, she has five children, one with down-syndrome - a chromosome disease that some expectant mothers may choose to abort.

Palin is well-liked, with the highest approval rating among all US state governors. She is also a former beauty queen.

Palin is very strong on energy, in favor of oil drilling.

Palin vetoed a third of earmarks GOP legislators put in the stage budget.

Palin is a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association, which should sit well with conservatives.

Interestingly, Pailn has shown great interest in helping the Native people of Alaska, which could help with minority votes.

She has NO experience and is being investigated for corruption by the Alaska Legislature. What organ was McCain thinking with?
