Madoff's Lawyer Asks For Less-Than-Life, Says Madoff Will Speak Of His Shame

Lawyers for fraudster Bernard Madoff submitted a letter to the judge in the case pleading a lenient sentencing for the self-confessed ponzi-schemer.

Specifically, Madoff's lawyers want him to be given a period of incarnation below a life sentence.

The lawyer said Madoff himself will speak to the "shame he has felt and to the pain he has caused" victims.

Madoff's lawyer said "Thankfully, none of the fury expressed in the victim statements has been as shocking as the death threats and anti-Semitic emails that have been directed toward Mr. Madoff and his counsel."

The lawyer asked the court to disregard the "mob vengeance" desire against Madoff, saying the court should set aside the emotion and hysteria attendant to this case.

The lawyer said Madoff has been cooperative with authorities and therefore advocates that he be given a prison term of 12 years, one year short of this approximate life expectancy of 13 years.
