CDC confirms first Ebola case diagnosed in the U.S.

The CDC will hold a press conference at 5:30PM ET.

Earlier reports suggested the case could be in Dallas, Texas. Presbyterian Hospital Dallas confirmed earlier that it has a patient “suspected” to be infected with Ebola and that the patient has been held in strict isolation.

Presbyterian Hospital said it's complying with all recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and the Texas Department of Health, according to WFAA 8 in Dallas.

The patient recently traveled from West Africa.

As of September 29, 2014, there have been 6,574 Ebola cases around the world and 3,091 deaths.

  • Confirms individual in Texas has Ebola that recently traveled from Liberia
  • Patient left W. Africa on Sept. 19

  • No symptoms when departing W. Africa
  • 5 days later the patient began to develop symptoms
  • Went to healthcare provider on 26th
  • Admitted to hospital on 28th
  • Placed in isolation
  • Specimens tested positive for Ebola in Texas and CDC
  • Next steps: 1. patient care, 2. maximize chances may recovery
  • CDC looking to identify people who were in contact with the individual
  • Only someone who is sick from Ebola can transmit the disease
