K-V Pharma (NYSE: KV.A) 73.2% LOWER; announced that it has been notified that the pending New Drug Application for Gestiva(TM) will not be approved by the U.S. FDA until further conditions are met.

Barclay's plc (NYSE: BCS) 60.6% HIGHER; Addresses market concerns. Barclays sees "significant" pretax profits in 2008 and is not seeking any further capital raises. The company is also pushing up the reporting of 2008 financial results to Monday, 9th February. Click here for the full report.

Quiksilver (NYSE: ZQK) 45% HIGHER; seeing upside today on the back of a Citi report in which an analyst argues that VF Corp. (NYSE: VFC) could potentially buy Quiksilver's DC Shoes brand. We are also hearing rumors that Quiksilver may have turned down a bid from Nike (NYSE: NKE).

Bank of Ireland (NYSE: IRE) 37% HIGHER; European banks are seeing substantial upside today on the back of reassuring comments out of Barclay's, which was down about 69% so far in '09 prior to today's jump.

Lloyd's Banking Group (NYSE: LYG) 32.5% HIGHER; higher on Barclay's news; see Bank of Ireland.

Allied Irish Bank (NYSE: AIB) 26.4% HIGHER; higher on Barclay's news; see Bank of Ireland.

ING Groep N.V. (NYSE: ING) 24.4% HIGHER; higher on Barclay's news; see Bank of Ireland.

PrivateBancorp (Nasdaq: PVTB) 23.1% LOWER; reports Q4 loss of $1.96, cents better than the analyst estimate of ($0.14).

Rohm and Haas Company (NYSE: ROH) 15.8% LOWER; has been advised by The Dow Chemical Company (NYSE: DOW) that Dow does not intend to close the pending acquisition of Rohm and Haas on or before Tuesday, January 27, 2009. Rohm and Haas and Dow have received all required approvals for the closing and the merger agreement requires that Dow close by such date. Rohm and Haas stated that it intends to pursue all available alternatives to protect its shareholders' interests.

Webster Financial (NYSE: WBS) 14.3% LOWER; continuing lower today following a Q4 warning and dividend cut on Friday. The stock was down about 20% on Friday.

ITT Educational Services (NYSE: ESI) 12.1% LOWER; private education stocks are tumbling on a cautious Barron's article published in this weekend's edition. Elsewhere in the sector: Apollo Group (Nasdaq: APOL) down 6%, Devry (NYSE: DV) down 2.5% and Corinthian Colleges (Nasdaq: COCO) down 7.7%.
