Stock, Stock Everywhere!! May Stock Offerings Already Exceed $30 Billion

With the 35% rise in the market since the March lows, new stock offerings have been coming at a rip-roaring pace. In March there were about $10 billion in new shares issued, in April that total surged to $22 billion and now in May there have been at least $30 billion in new shares offered. The May number could rise to $45 billion if Bank of America issues the $15 billion in stock they are authorized to sell.

Not only are the stress-test banks taking advantage of the new-found appetite for their stocks, but REITs, energy companies and auto companies, among others, are selling stock to shore up their balance sheets.
