May CPI Down 0.3%, vs. Cons. -0.2%, Up 1.7% YoY; Core CPI Up 0.2%

Consumer Price Index for the month of May fell 0.3%, which compares to the Street estimate of -0.2%. CPI was up 1.7% from the same month last year. Economists were expecting a 1.8% year-over-year rise.
Core CPI (excludes food and energy prices) was up 0.2%, vs. the economist consensus estimate of +0.2%. Core CPI on a year-over-year basis was up 2.3%, which compares to the consensus estimate of +2.2%.
