Jan. Nonfarm Payrolls Up 243K Jobs, vs. Cons. 140K, Private Sector Adds 257K Jobs; Unemployment Rate 8.3%
The gain in nonfarm payrolls for the month of January was 243,000, which compares to the economist estimate of 140,000. The reading for December was 203,000.
Payrolls in the private sector gained 257,000, versus the economist estimate of 160,000. The prior month reading was 220,000 jobs added.
Manufacturing payrolls added 50,000 jobs, vs. the consensus estimate of 12,000.
The unemployment rate fell to 8.3%
