Exports from China grew 7.2 percent in June, from a 7 percent gain the prior month, according to China's General Administration of Customs.
Consensus estimates were looking for growth in the range of 10 to 10.6 percent.
China's trade surplus in June was $31.6 billion, from $35.92 billion in May. Imports grew 6 percent, from a 1.6 percent drop in May and consensus estimates of a 5.4 percent gain.
Despite the positive numbers, imports and exports grew by just 1.2 percent in the first-half of 2014, making it a challenge for the country to reach its 7.5 percent trade growth target for 2014.
Investors are keeping an eye on the iShares FTSE/Xinhua China 25 Index (NYSE: FXI) ETF today.
