Consumer prices in the U.S. rose in September, increasing 0.6 percent. The move higher was driven in part by gains in the cost of gasoline, which rose 7 percent. However, despite the rise in inflation, Ex-food and energy, CPI rose only 0.1 percent in September.
Most view this as a relatively modest rise, especially considering the massive injection of money by the Fed in recent years.
On a 12-month bases, CPI rose 2 percent, with a 12 month gain of 1.6 percent for energy and 2.3 percent for food. This is higher than the August reading of 1.7 percent. Ex-food and energy CPI rose by 2 percent over the same period.
