Golf OK'd By IOC for 2016 (ELY, GOLF, ADGF, NKE, DKS)
The IOC voted that golf will re-debut in the 2016 Olympics held in Rio de Janeiro. The sport is to take place in regular tournament form, 72-holes played over four days. The top three lowest scores will be awarded the Olympic medals.
“We are elated that the IOC membership has accepted golf as an Olympic sport, and look forward to seeing the world’s best golfers compete for the gold at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro,” IGF Executive Director Ty Votaw said in a statement.
Golf was last in the Olympics in 1904.
Rugby was also voted into the Olympics. Rugby officials have proposed a 12-team Men’s and Women's tournament being played over two or three days in Rio. Rugby was last in the Olympics in 1924, when the 15-man game was played.
