Notable ETF Movers of the Day 12/28: (VXX) (UUP) Higher; (EWZ) (FXI) Lower

Gainers
  • iPath S&P 500 VIX Short-Term Futures ETN (NYSE: VXX) up 2.81 percent to $35.35. The CBOE VIX ETF is up Wednesday on a low-volume trading session. With the end of 2011 nearing, investors and traders might be looking to shore up books heading into 2012.

  • PowerShares DB US Dollar Index Bullish (NYSE: UUP) up 0.85 percent to $22.53. The U.S. dollar is showing some weakness against other currencies during the holiday week, with light holiday trading happening.
Receders
  • iShares MSCI Brazil Index (NYSE: EWZ) down 3.01 percent to $56.37. Brazilian stocks lower following a week where it saw a 3.6 percent increase through Tuesday. The Bovespa is currently 2 percent lower Wednesday.

  • iShares FTSE China 25 Index Fund (NYSE: FXI) down 2.05 percent to $34.46. Chinese stocks showing some weakness following a 35 basis point jump in the seven-day repurchase rate, to 4.80 percent, suggesting a more challenging borrowing environment for small businesses.
