Gainers:

iShares Dow Jones US Home Construction ETF (NYSE: ITB) gained 1.45 percent to 20.90. After months of mostly positive U.S. housing data, today’s rally comes in response to, you guessed it, more positive housing data. This time it came in the form of September new home sales. New home sales rose 389 thousand compared to expectations of 383 thousand.

iShares FTSE China 25 Index Fund (NYSE: FXI) climbed 1 percent to 37.40. Coming in at 49.1 in October vs. 47.9 in September, China Flash PMI data showed that the slowdown in manufacturing could be easing, and this helped to lift shares in Asia.

Decliners:

iShares Dow Jones Transportation Average (NYSE: IYT) declined 1.6 percent to 89. Shares of Norfolk Southern (NYSE: NSC) declined 7.4 percent after the company reported a year-over-year decline in revenue. This prompted analysts at Citi to downgrade the stock from Buy to Neutral.
