Notable ETF Movers of the Day 06/08: (USO) (XLE) (EPU) Higher; (EWY) (SLX) (TAN) Lower

  • United States Oil (NYSE: USO) up 1.79 percent to $39.75. Crude trading higher as OPEC failed to make a decision over production quotas at its meeting held in Vienna today. Expectations were for OPEC to increase quotas in order to meet heightened demand. Separately, ExxonMobil (NYSE: XOM) reported striking its first oil discovery in the Gulf of Mexico since a moratorium was place on the area last year.

  • Energy Select Sector SPDR (NYSE: XLE) up 0.79 percent to $74.14. Bolstered by Exxon's announcement, stocks in the energy sector are trading mostly higher today. Additionally, crude inventories have fallen 4.8 million barrels last week, compared with consensus expectations looking for a more modest 400K drop. WTI futures are trading $1.61 better to $100.70 per barrel on the Comex.

  • iShares MSCI All Peru Capped Index (NYSE: EPU) up 2.97 percent to $40.23. Making a bounce following Monday's collapse of Peruvian market's upon election of leftist Ollanta Humala as president. Stocks tumbled as much as 12.5 percent Monday on concerns over how Humala would handle current policies.

  • iShares MSCI South Korea Index (NYSE: EWY) down 1.48 percent to $63.43. South Korea revised its first-quarter GDP to 1.3 percent, lower than the 1.4 percent expected. The number is up 4.2 percent from the first-quarter in 2010. WSJ reports that this may cause South Korea's central bank to maintain its interest rate policy.

  • iShares Silver Trust (NYSE: SLV) down 1.44 percent to $35.61. Precious metals are selling off today on the strengthening U.S. dollar, following comments from Fed chief Ben Bernanke which didn't lead to any conclusions of further quantitative easing. PowerShares DB US Dollar Index Bullish (NYSE: UUP) is up 0.48 percent on the session.

  • Guggenheim Solar (NYSE: TAN) down 3.24 percent to $6.87. Solars making a big dip today, as SunPower (Nasdaq: SPWRA) and LDK Solar (NYSE: LDK( both issued guidance that is failing to inspire investors to buy in. Trina (NYSE: TSL) and Yingli (NYSE: YGE) are also seeing negative pressure today.
