Notable ETF Movers of the Day 02/04: (GLD) Higher; (XRT) (MOO) Lower
Gainers:
SPDR Gold Shares ETF (NYSE: GLD) gained 0.4 percent to 162.1. Gold continues to hover in a range between $1650 and $1700 per ounce. An analyst at Credit Suisse last week said he thinks the run in gold has come to an end. He also said he views gold as "significantly overvalued". Others disagree, including Longview Economics. Analysts there think gold will continue to rally to $2000 per ounce. This lack of consensus is creating choppiness in the price of spot gold.
Decliners:
SPDR S&P Retail ETF (NYSE: XRT) declined 1 percent to 66.5. Wal-Mart Stores Inc. (NYSE: WMT) was among the laggards today, declining 1.4 percent following an analyst downgrade to Neutral by JP Morgan. Monro Muffler Brake Inc. (Nasdaq: MNRO) also traded lower, shedding 3.25 percent.
Market Vectors Agribusiness ETF (NYSE: MOO) declined 1 percent to 55.7. The Mosaic Company (NYSE: MOS) came under pressure on Monday, declining 1.9 percent on profit taking following an 8 percent rally since the 1st of the year. This compares to the S&P 500 which has gained only 3.5 percent. Mosaic is the 10th largest holding in MOO, with a 4.2 percent weighting.
