June 2, 2015 6:39 AM EDT

The euro is stronger versus the dollar Tuesday on speculation that Greece and its creditors might be nearing a deal.

Reports Monday had the international creditors prepping a final bailout proposal to present to Greek officials amid months of stalling in talks.

It was also reported early Tuesday that Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras said his government submitted its own proposal ahead of the one being finalized by creditors.

The submission comes following talks in Berlin earlier Monday. The meeting, at the German Chancellery, involved Angela Merkel, IMF chief Christine Lagarde, European Central Bank President Mario Draghi, French President Francois Hollande and European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker.

Tsipras commented, After submitting a complete proposal for a deal last night to institutions, we are not waiting for them to submit their own plan back to us ... Greece is the one that submits the plan.

Greece is expected to make a debt repayment to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) on Friday, but it is the smallest of four due this month, which carry a total value of €1.6 billion.

The euro is up 1 percent to $1.1033.
