Goldman Sachs downgraded Life Technologies (NASDAQ: LIFE) from Neutral to Sell with a price target of $38.00, suggesting 16% downside. The firm said challenged growth creates a value trap.

The analyst said "we believe both cyclical (academic funding) and structural (profitability in key products) headwinds will lead to weaker-than-expected operating results in 2H12 and beyond."
