Yahoo! (YHOO) Interim CEO Levinsohn Kicks Out Thompson's Minions

May 18, 2012 7:45 AM EDT
Yahoo! (Nasdaq: YHOO) CEO Ross Levinsohn is doing a "cleansing" of a sort, following his recent appointment as Interim CEO of the former search giant.

In a note circulated late Thursday, Levinsohn announced some changes at the top: leaving are Merta Nichols, Amanda Pires, and Sam Schrauger. Pires and Schrauger were both part of eBay's (Nasdaq: EBAY) PayPal unit, brought over when Scott Thompson assumed the role of CEO. You can probably guess who they unfriended first on Facebook following the move (hint: it's Thompson).

Levinsohn has appointed Michel Protti as Chief of Staff, Mickie Rosen as lead of Global Media and Commerce, Millie Spillman as Head of Marketing.

With Levinsohn gunning for a permanent position as CEO, the moves are all being strategically made to garner the admiration of Yahoo!'s Board. Given its history, that shouldn't be too difficult.

Shares are up about 5 percent Friday morning. Other Yahoo! headlines include the company being near a deal for its Alibaba stake. To read more on that, click here.
