Wal-Mart (WMT) Raises Sam's Club Member Fee for First Time Since Jan. 2006

With its first quarter earnings report today, Wal-Mart (NYSE: WMT) announced that as of May 15, Sam's Club increased its membership fee to $45 nationwide for both Advantage and Business base memberships, reflecting a $5 and $10 increase, respectively. The fee for Plus membership remains $100. This is Sam's Club's first fee increase since Jan. 2006.

"The combination of our strategies, including our membership fee increase, positions us well for the second quarter, and we have a number of events to drive sales," said Brewer. "Members will experience exciting merchandise, heightened by local brands, all displayed with a new level of visual excitement."
