Verizon (NYSE: VZ) is still the top vendor of Google (Nasdaq: GOOG) Android-based mobile devices, but it's losing ground.

According to data from Chitika, Verizon's market share for Android devices dropped from 51.42 percent at the end of March to 41.1 percent in August. Verizon carries four of the five top Android devices in Droid X, HTC Droid Incredible, Samsung Fascinate, and Droid. AT&T (NYSE: T) has gained some market share, from 3.58 percent to 8.72 percent.

Further, Verizon appears to be gaining share in the Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) iPhone market, meaning customers are shifting from Android to iOS as both operating systems vie for overall mobile market share.
