Alabama National BanCorporp (NASDAQ: ALAB) 45% HIGHER; RBC Centura Banks, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Royal Bank of Canada (NYSE: RY) acquire Alabama National BanCorporation for $80 per share.

Volt Information Sciences, Inc. (NYSE: VOL) 26% HIGHER; Reports Q3 EPS of $0.40, 9 cents better than estimates. Revenues were $610.5 million vs. $566.03 million consensus.

Cardica Inc. (Nasdaq: CRDC) 19% HIGHER; Continued momentum after yesterday\'s 49% run-up.

Conexant Systems (Nasdaq: CNXT) 15.8% HIGHER; CIBC upgrades Conexant from Sector Perform to Sector Outperform.

Sharper Image (NASDAQ: SHRP) 13.6% LOWER; Reports August sales were $21.9 million compared to $33.4 million in the previous year, a decrease of 34%. Total store sales were $16.0 million compared to $19.3 million in the prior August, a decrease of 17%. Comparable store sales in August decreased 16%.

Martek Biosciences (Nasdaq: MATK) 10.1% LOWER; Reports Q3 EPS of $0.19, 1 cent better than estimates. Revenues came in at $77.8 million versus the consensus of $78.5 million. Sees Q4 EPS of $0.20-$0.21, versus the consensus of $0.19. Sees Q4 revs of $77-$80 million versus the consensus of $78.3 million.

MasTec, Inc. (NYSE: MTZ) 9.4% HIGHER; ThinkEquity and SMH Capital upgrade the stock to Buy.

J. Crew Group (NYSE: JCG) 9.2% LOWER; Reports Q2 EPS of $0.32, 3 cents better than estimates. Revenues came in at $304.7 million versus the consensus of $308.5 million. The Company\'s long-term annual financial targets include comparable store sales growth in the mid single-digit range, Direct sales growth in the high single-digits, net square footage expansion in the 7% to 9% range, and diluted EPS growth in excess of 20%.

ADC Telecommunications (Nasdaq: ADCT) 7.6% HIGHER; Reports Q3 EPS of $0.37, ex-items, versus the consensus of $0.23. Revenues came in at $346 million versus the consensus of $328.1 million. ADC currently expects its 2007 sales to be in the range of $1.308-$1.313 billion, versus the consensus of $1.29 billion. GAAP diluted EPS from continuing operations in 2007 is estimated to be in the range of $1.11 to $1.15.

Encysive Pharmaceuticals Inc. (Nasdaq: ENCY) 7.2% LOWER; Received a written response from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regarding Encysive\'s request for formal dispute resolution on its New Drug Application (NDA) for Thelin(tm) (sitaxsentan sodium) for the treatment of pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH). The FDA\'s reviewer agreed with the decision of the Division of Cardiovascular and Renal Products that, while the data provided in the NDA are suggestive of the effectiveness of Thelin, it did not provide the substantial evidence of effectiveness needed for approval. The reviewer encouraged the Company to conduct an additional study to demonstrate the drug\'s effectiveness in exercise capacity as measured by change in six-minute walk distance.
