Strayer Education (STRA) Slammed on Q2 Enrollments, Weak Q3 EPS Expectations

Strayer Education, Inc. (NASDAQ: STRA) shares are getting slammed Thursday following in-line second-quarter results, but weak Q3 EPS expectations. Shares are down over 22 percent early.

Strayer reported Q2 EPS of $1.85, $0.01 worse than the analyst estimate of $1.86. Revenue for the quarter came in at $146.3 million versus the consensus estimate of $147.85 million.

Enrollment at Strayer University for the 2012 summer term decreased 7% to 44,236 students compared to 47,790 students for the same term in 2011. Across the Strayer University campus and online system, new student enrollments increased 9%, while continuing student enrollments decreased 11%, reflecting decreased new student enrollment in previous terms. Global online students increased 8%. Students taking 100% of their classes online (including campus based students) decreased 6%.

Strayer Education, Inc. sees Q3 2012 EPS of $0.30-$0.32, versus the consensus of $0.88.
