Sprint (S) to Get Third Apple (AAPL) Device - the iPad!

September 14, 2011 3:34 PM EDT
Sprint (NYSE: S) is going to get more than just the Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) iPhone.

In addition to the rumored next generation mobile device, the iPhone 5, and the iPhone 4, Sprint will join peers Verizon (NYSE: VZ) and AT&T (NYSE: T) in selling the iPad tablet device. According to 9to5mac.com, Sprint and Apple have been working on making the device compatible with Sprint's CDMA network. Yesterday, another blog reported the Sprint iPad would possibly run on its 4G WiMAX network, but that seems like a bigger news story, and why wouldn't Verizon and AT&T also get a 4G device?

Those on the Sprint network will love Sprint's unlimited data plan if they pick up an iPad, though Verizon has been rumored to be mulling a $50 unlimited prepaid plan. The WSJ said Verizon's announcement will come sometime this week, and takes aim at Sprint and MetroPCS (NYSE: PCS).

9to5mac.com says the tablet will be available for the holidays, meaning a double-dose of Apple goodness for some lucky kids (and kid-at-hearts) over the Holiday 2011 season.

Sprint is trading moderately lower on the session.
