Shaw Group (SGR) Selected as Alliance Partner by RWE npower for Development of Power Stations

The Shaw Group Inc. (NYSE: SGR) announced that its Power Group has been selected by RWE npower as its alliance partner to develop two new carbon capture and storage ready supercritical coal-fired power stations being considered at Tilbury, Essex and Blyth, Northumberland in the United Kingdom.

As RWE npower’s alliance partner, Shaw has been awarded a development services contract to provide stage-one support for the proposed power generation program of up to 5 x 800 MWe generation units. The value of Shaw’s development services contract, which was not disclosed, will be included in the company’s third quarter fiscal 2008 backlog.

Under the development services contract, Shaw will provide preliminary design, specifications, constructability and logistics studies for the new generation program to support the Section 36 permitting process under the U.K.’s Electricity Act of 1989. [SM]
