SINA Corp. (Nasdaq: SINA) wants users of its microblog service, Weibo, to stay on the site longer, possibly having found the secret recipe to make that happen.
According to reports out Thursday, SINA is slated to debut a new Internet TV service with partner BesTV New Media. The service will be aimed at a more "social television" experience, letting users chat about programs as they commence. Kind of like a mime trying to interrupt a movie via "yelling" (read: gesturing hard) at the screen.
The effort was affirmed by PR rep Mao Taotao and SINA is expected to make an announcement about the feature tomorrow.
Based on what we see here, we're convinced it will work.
Shares of SINA are bid higher in early trading Thursday.
