Postpaid, Android Drive AT&T (T) to Q2 Win; Apple Still King

AT&T Inc. (NYSE: T) is showing some early strength Thursday on the back of in-line second-quarter earnings results.
Earnings fell in-line at 60 cents per share, while revs grew 2.2 percent to $31.495 billion, above the $31.33 billion expected. Of total revs, Voice and Directory segments saw declines, while Wireless jumped 7.4 percent and Data increased 7.1 percent.
Wireless still is the biggest driver of revs for AT&T, accounting for about double of the next largest segment at $14.157 billion.
AT&T reported Google (Nasdaq: GOOG) Android phone sales doubled year-over-year, accounting for 40 percent of smartphone sales in the quarter. Apple's (Nasdaq: AAPL) iPhone had 3.6 million activations in the quarter, with 24 percent of those being new subs.
Overall smartphone sales were reported as "second-best" at 5.6 million with "nearly 70 percent of total postpaid sales [as] smartphones"
Wireless subs increased by 1.095 million to 98.6 million total subs. Postpaid adds were 331,000. Postpaid churn increased 14 basis points to 1.15 percent, and total churn saw the same move to 1.43 percent.
Postpaid ARPU rose 2 percent to $63.87.
AT&T shares are up about 0.7 percent early.
