Palm (PALM) Is Currently Launching Its New Smartphone At CES

January 8, 2009 2:40 PM EST

Palm (Nasdaq: PALM) is currently introducing its revolutionary smartphone at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES). Yesterday, StreetInsider reported on some of the features that the phone will include and it looks like they were accurate.

-Large touchscreen smartphone that has full slide-down QWERTY keyboard.
-EV-DO, A, 802.11b/g, 8GB storage, GPS, Bluetooth stereo.
-The first smartphone with TI’s latest processor — "laptop-like performance." Thanks to gdgt.com for this tip.
-Intended for one-handed usage unlike Apple's (Nasdaq: AAPL) iPhone.
-All your changes are saved automatically — focus on what you’re trying to do, and not running programs or saving files.

The audience at CES are reacting positively to the new Palm device and the stock is trading up 6% on this exciting product launch. No word on what carriers will carry the phone yet.

This is Palm's first major new device with a new operating system after nearly two years in a restructuring mode.

Gdgt, who is at the conference, said "the stuff Palm is showing so far is REALLY exciting. It’s a little early to call this, but it seems pretty clear: Palm is back."
