OMA (OMAB) Terminal Traffic Up 4.9% in December

Grupo Aeroportuario del Centro Norte S.A.B. de C.V (NASDAQ: OMAB) reports that terminal passenger traffic at its 13 airports increased 4.9% in December 2012, as compared to December 2011. Domestic traffic increased 6.2%, and international traffic decreased 0.9%.
Traffic volumes have increased for sixteen months in a row, starting in September 2011, as a result of the recovery of the air transport industry in Mexico and OMA's actions in coordination with the government and private sector to promote greater air connectivity in the markets where our airports are located.
Of total December traffic, 97.4% was commercial aviation and 2.6% was general aviation.
Domestic traffic increased in ten airports in December, with the most noteworthy increases in Monterrey (+7.1%), Reynosa (+51.5%), Culiacán (+7.9%), and Mazatlán (+12.6%). In Monterrey, traffic increased principally on the routes to Cancún, León, and Chihuahua. Reynosa traffic increased on the Mexico City route. Culiacán traffic increased on the Tijuana route, while Mazatlán traffic increased on the Mexico City route. The most significant reductions were at the Zacatecas (-13.1%) and Acapulco (-3.4%) airports as a result of reductions on the routes to Mexico City and Toluca, respectively.
International traffic increased in seven airports in December, with the most significant increases in Monterrey (+6.4%) and Culiacán (+163.8%). In Monterrey, traffic benefited from the increase in passengers on the route to Dallas. Chihuahua traffic increased on the Los Angeles route. The largest decreases were at the Mazatlán (-16.9%) and Zacatecas (-33.9%) airports. Mazatlán was affected by reduced traffic on the Houston, Kelowna, and Seattle routes; Zacatecas was affected by reductions on the Chicago and Los Angeles routes. Aeroméxico opened the Monterrey-Laredo route and United opened the Monterrey-Chicago route during December.
The number of flight operations (takeoffs and landings) in December decreased 2.9% as compared to the same month of last year. The number of domestic operations decreased 3.0% and international operations decreased 2.0%.
