Northrop Grumman (NOC) and Lockheed Martin Corportion (LMT) LONGBOW Fire Control Radar Block III Passes Initial Test Flights

The LONGBOW Fire Control Radar Block III system hardware and operational software, completed initial tests on an AH-64D Apache attack helicopter. The LONGBOW is a joint development between Northrop Grumman (NYSE: NOC) and Lockheed Martin Corporation (NYSE: LMT). The test evaluated systems the classify moving and non-moving armored vehicular targets. The LONGBOW Block III will remove 80 pounds of system weight on the AH-64D Apache, while increasing reliability and maintainability within the system.

The $140 million LONGBOW Block III development program was awarded to the LONGBOW LLC in 2005. The first test units were delivered to the U.S. Army in October 2008 with production deliveries scheduled to begin in 2011. Initial operational capability is planned for 2012.
