Microsoft (MSFT) Takes Windows Phone Platform to China (NOK)

March 21, 2012 7:04 AM EDT
Microsoft (Nasdaq: MSFT) has officially brought its Windows Phone line to China.

According to a post on the Windows Phone Blog, the new device is an "unlocked" HTC Eternity (meaning its an "open market" mobile device).

The WP Blog said the HTC Eternity has "a 4.7-inch screen, front- and rear-facing cameras, and comes stocked with a slew of popular Chinese apps."

Nokia (NYSE: NOK) and other handset makers will be delivering devices to China later this year, the WP Blog noted.

WP devices will be using a form of simplified Chinese for its UI: "Our engineering and design teams really sweated the details, working hard to create a version of the software that both showcases the inherent beauty of Chinese characters and excites Chinese customers."

Microsoft is indicated for a lower open Wednesday.
