Mania Seen for Nokia's (NOK) Lumia 920 Phones in China

December 24, 2012 7:40 AM EST
There was a mania witnessed at Nokia's (NYSE: NOK) flagship Shanghai store over the weekend, and no it wasn't on rumors they were giving away free Apple iPhones.

Like demand witnessed elsewhere across the globe, initial demand for Nokia's Lumia 920 appears feverish in the populous country.

When it became known that the store in question received a shipment of handsets, large crowds advanced on the store, according to WMPoweruser.com. Within two hours they were sold out.

With the initial supply of Lumia 920 very low and pre-orders sold out, questions remain about if the demand is just a flash in the pan or if it can have staying power. Nonetheless, it is a positive sign for the embattled smartphone maker.

Shares of Nokia are indited to open flat on Monday at $3.99.
