Jobs Return Steals The Show (AAPL)
Today, Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) introduced its new iPod lineup, but the new device was upstaged by the return of CEO Steve Jobs, who made his first public appearance after returning earlier in the year from a liver transplant.
Jobs' was greeted with a standing ovation by the audience. Jobs, looking thin and talking in a scratchy voice told the crowd he received a liver of a young victim of a car accident and urged the crowed to become organ donors. Jobs said "I wouldn't be here without such generosity." Jobs also applauded Apple management for running the company during the difficult time.
Apple's cool new iPod nano has a video camera, mic and speaker in addition to a built-in FM radio with live pause and iTunes(R) Tagging, as well as a built-in pedometer. The new iPod nano is available today in an 8GB model for $149 and a 16GB model for $179.
Jobs also unveiled a new iPod operating system and a new version of iTunes.
Google's (Nasdaq: GOOG) CEO, Eric Schmidt, who recently resigned from the Apple board was also at today's Apple event.
Despite the shareholder-friendly news of Jobs' return, shares of AAPL sold off 1% today. This was likely on a 'buy the rumor, sell the news' reaction from traders. Jim Cramer told CNBC viewers to buy the stock Friday after the decline.
