Ford Motor Co. (NYSE: F) swept the Car and Truck awards at the North American International Auto Show, an achievement that has only occurred only two other times in the 17-year history of the awards.
The Ford Fusion Hybrid was named car of the year and the Ford Transit connect the truck of the year by a 50 member panel of U.S. and Canadian automotive journalists in Detroit on Monday.
These awards will prove a valuable marketing tool for the automaker to increase demand for the vehicles.
"A couple of years ago we said we wanted to get back into the car business and we wanted to do ti with vehicles that had great quality, great fuel efficiency, technology and safety," president for the Americas of Ford, Mark Fields said.
Ford did not take any of the $120 billion in U.S. government stimulus funds last year that was spent to help prop up the auto industry.
Ford's stock have quadrupled over the past year and jumped 55 percent since November.
Share of the U.S. automaker are up 2.14 percent to $11.94 in current market movement.
