Einhorn's Greenlight Gets Very-Long Gold (GLD, GDX), Also Likes Solar (JASO, WFR) and Other Energy (AYE, PCX, PTEN)

David Einhorn's Greenlight Capital released its 13F for the quarter ended December 31, 2008. Einhorn admittedly had a rough 2008, although he was dead-on about his short Lehman Brothers (NYSE: LEH) trade.

Einhorn recently disclosed he was getting long gold -- and his filings confirms he is now very-long the precious metal through ETFs SPDR Gold Shares (NYSE: GLD) and Market Vectors Gold Miners (NYSE: GDX).

Einhorn also appears to be getting interested in the solar theme, buying new stakes in JA Solar (Nasdaq: JASO) and MEMC Electronic (NYSE: WFR) and other energy plays like Allegheny Energy (NYSE: AYE), Patriot Coal (NYSE: PCX) and Patterson-UTI Energy (Nasdaq: PTEN). He also significantly raised his stake in EMC (NYSE: EMC).
