Cabot Oil & Gas (COG) CEO Issues Letter to EPA Following Decision to Initiate Water Sampling Program in Dimock Township, Pennsylvania

January 26, 2012 9:04 AM EST
Cabot Oil & Gas Corporation (NYSE: COG) today announced that its Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer, Dan O. Dinges, sent a letter to the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Lisa Jackson regarding the decision of the Agency to initiate a water sampling program in Dimock Township, Pennsylvania.

While Cabot is committed to working with the community and with regulators at all levels, it appears as though the EPA's decision is politically motivated and not based on a legitimate desire to address environmental concerns.

The letter to the EPA today is consistent with statements from the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection that termed the EPA's understanding of the Dimock situation as 'rudimentary.' We look forward to assisting the EPA as it refines its thinking regarding Dimock through better understanding of local geology, practices, and water quality.
