BB&T Successfully Implements Orbograph's Automation 08 Recognition Service as Part of Efficiency Strategy

November 9, 2009 12:59 PM EST

BILLERICA, Mass., Nov. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Orbograph Ltd., a leading provider of recognition solutions and services for the U.S. check processing market, announced today that BB&T Corporation has successfully implemented its Automation 08 recognition service within the bank's check processing workflow.

As an innovative service-based solution, Orbograph's Automation 08 provides leading recognition capabilities to financial institutions and service bureaus with no capital investment requirements. It enables streamlining of the check image processing workflow in centralized and branch capture environments with high levels of automation rates and accuracy. At BB&T, the Automation 08 service is part of a blended branch/centralized capture environment running the Software Earnings' Payments Navigator software platform.

"By using Orbograph's Automation 08 service, we will be able to attain a seven figure savings over the life of the agreement," explained Tim Dillow, Senior Vice President - Regional Operations Support Manager for BB&T. "Our platform choices were working fine for us, but we felt there were significant inefficiencies with our existing recognition system. We needed a solution that would minimize capital investment, yet yield significant and proven savings without risk. Orbograph provided a robust solution with seamless implementation. Not only are we hitting our efficiency targets, but we are seeing additional benefit in the workflow utilization of our staff. Another important advantage is the comprehensive business intelligence reporting capability incorporated in the Automation 08 service. We are now able to drill down and analyze the performance of our operation."

BB&T's implementation of Automation 08 utilizes VMware(®) with virtual servers, enabling the bank to minimize hardware costs traditionally associated with CPU intensive processes like recognition.

"Many larger financial institutions are not attaining maximum efficiency levels in their branch or centralized capture workflows due to older toolkit recognition technologies that are in place," stated Barry Cohen, Co-General Manager for Orbograph. "The incremental savings in such environments using our Automation service model can be very significant. At BB&T, for example, each percentage in read rate improvement equates to a direct reduction of FTEs. This level of savings provides both BB&T and Orbograph a major incentive to optimize performance with a partnership approach."
