Apple (AAPL) MacBook Pro Owners Feeling 'Haunted' with New Retina Display

Say you're sitting there with a brand new, tres haute Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) MacBook Pro with Retina display. After hours (or days?) of stellar use, you feel the need to turn the device off for some reason.
Bam! It looks like something is burned into your big, beautiful, expensive display, which leaves you speechless for a few moments. That's when the 12 stages of tech regret set in: anger, confusion, denial, questioning, hiding, blame, prayer, coffee... Okay, we could only come up with eight.
Turns out, ghosting on the new display isn't something uncommon. The display uses IPS (in-plane switching) technology, which is known for some ghosting effects. The best method is to shake it like an Etch-A-Sketch, from what we understand. (Just kidding, an active screen saver or special app should help with the process.)
It's really not clear whether Apple will address this issue if it becomes more widespread. One story said a Genius Bar employee offered to replace the panel, which is a nice thing to do and what we'd expect from Apple. ...Until you realize every panel costs $120 or so, not including labor and shipping (for the old one as well). This would be a tough thing to swallow when millions of MacBook Pros are sold.
Apple shares are down 1.8 percent in late-Monday trading.
