United (UAL) CEO Smisek Avers Support for Boeing's (BA) 787 Amid Troubles

Boeing (NYSE: BA) executives and engineers have probably been more busy than they expected to be just a few short months following the launch of its coveted 787 Dreamliner.
Dubbed the next-generation aircraft, the 787 came under fire a several days ago when issued started popping up, with batteries as the main focus. Japan Airlines and Nippan Air both reported issues with the aircraft and the FAA has since grounded all 787s.
Today, Boeing is getting a vote of confidence from one key CEO. United Continental (NYSE: UAL) chief Jeff Smisek was issuing comments on the company's quarterly call following a firm fourth-quarter report earlier. Smisek said, "History teaches us that all new aircraft types have issues and the 787 is no different...We continue to have confidence in the aircraft and in Boeing's ability to fix the issues, just as they have done on every other new aircraft model they've produced."
United has six 787s in its fleet with expectations for deliveries of two more in the latter half of 2013.
Boeing is showing some bounce today, up about 1.6 percent in late-morning trade. United is up over 2.5 percent.
