Verizon (VZ) Debuts Three New Droid Smartphones; MAXX Battery Life Now at 48 Hours

July 23, 2013 12:16 PM EDT
Verizon (NYSE: VZ) is back into positive territory Tuesday as the company introduced three new additions to its smartphone lineup.

BoyGeniusReport and others were live at Verizon's Droid conference today, which started at 12:00pm EDT. Introduced were the Droid Ultra, Droid mini, and Droid MAXX.

BGR said that the models will have 100 percent faster GPU, a 24 percent faster CPU, and double the RAM of current models.

The Droid Ultra, at 7.1-mm thick, is said to be the thinnest 4G-capable smartphone.

Adding on to already stellar performance, the Droid MAXX will have battery life of about 48 hours and is 9 percent thinner than the outgoing model.

The devices will run on Motorola's X8 mobile computing platform. Other features include touchless controls and active display, which lights up a portion of the screen for incoming notifications.

Cost will be as follows: $99 for the mini, $199 for the Ulta, and $299 for the MAXX (we assume those are with-contract prices).

On watch following the news are Sprint (NYSE: S) and AT&T (NYSE: T), while Nokia (NYSE: NOK) and BlackBerry (Nasdaq: BBRY) just saw the bar get raised as well.
