Coal stocks moved in response to President Obama's comments on climate change. Shares of Alpha Natural Resources, (NYSE: ANR) Arch Coal Inc. (NYSE: ACI) Walter Energy, Inc. (NYSE: WLT), and others moved higher. SolarCity Corporation (Nasdaq: SCTY) also saw action.
President Obama stated the need for global free trade of environmental goods, and he said he had no patience for people who deny climate change effects.
Investors feared the president would announce tough changes to combat carbon emissions.
