August light-vehicle SAAR is 17.81 million units, versus 17.3 million expected, according to AutoData. The number compares to 17.55 million in July and 17.32 million during the same period last year.
Total light vehicle sales fell 0.5 percent to 1,577,407 units in August, while year-to-date 2015 sales are up 3.8 percent to 11,609,928 units.
August passenger car sales slipped 10.3 percent to 687,998 units and light truck sales rose 8.6 percent to 889,409 units.
