U.S. FCC Approves Net Neutrality in 3-2 Vote (T) (VZ) (NFLX)

U.S. FCC approves net neutrality in 3-2 vote, according to Bloomberg

Measures approved by the FCC will prohibit names like AT&T (NYSE: T) and Comcast (Nasdaq: CMCSA) from blocking or throttling certain traffic and from offering faster Internet speeds in return for payment.

The move will also bring wireless Internet under the rules for the first time.

Communications giants, like Verizon (NYSE: VZ), believe the measure will hamper fast-growing Internet and lead to further rate regulation.

Companies like Twitter (NYSE: TWTR) and Netflix (Nasdaq: NFLX) were for the measure to pass.

Today's vote stems from FCC 10-201, or, the "Open Internet Order," which enacted in 2010 and blocked by Supreme Court previously. The court said the FCC had to reclassify broadband if it wanted to prohibit practices such as discriminating against apps or blocking websites.
