Smartwatches, smartphones, smartglassess...what's next?

How about smartshoes.

Digitimes said today that names like Google (Nasdaq: GOOG), Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL), Nike (NYSE: NKE), and China's Xiaomi are working an smart shoes. Nike is already said to have already outsourced some of the work to an R&D team founded by universities in Taiwan.

Nike's shoes will be the most high-tech thing anyone's ever put on their feet. There will by gyroscopes, accelerometers, transmitters, and more. The shoes will send data, such as calories consumed, and also give directions based on calculated distance traveled.

It wasn't made clear whether Google and Apple would collaborate over a pair of shoes or being producing their own version. It's likely Google would partner on that sort of deal, just hoping to get Android as the main operating system with a seasoned manufacturer making the actual product.
