Price, Software Seen as Biggest Challenges for Apple's (AAPL) iPad Pro in Enterprise Market

September 16, 2015 8:58 AM EDT

Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) debuted a larger tablet last week with the iPad Pro, which will be geared more toward the business crowd. But, will Apple see itself with another successful product?

Some analysts don't think so.

Reuters noted on Wednesday that companies are more reluctant to change software vendors in order to use a more expensive device which lacks specialized apps.

While the iPad Pro starts at $799, the addition of a keyboard and stylus will push the price to over $1,000. That's about the same price as a MacBook Air laptop and is more expensive than tablet offerings from Microsoft, Lenovo, and others.

Microsoft recently noted that revenue for its tablets -- including the Surface 3 and Surface Pro 3 -- increased 117 percent to $888 million.

Overall, analysts see price as the biggest hurdle for Apple in gaining a larger share of the enterprise market. While it might be expected the Apple would give bulk discounts, market watchers will wait and see how iPad sales numbers turn out over the next several quarters.

Shares of Apple are indicated higher Wednesday.
