As Facebook (Nasdaq: FB) delves deeper into making video more prominent on its regular platform and mobile apps, just how much is the average Facebooker even watching TV, if at all?
GlobalWebIndex, on Thursday, noted that 45 percent of Facebook users watched on-demand TV and 37 percent watched online TV. Just over 80 percent said that they watched a video clip, which is clearly a sticking point for the company with its move to make viewing videos easier.
Notably, Facebook users are committing about 0.71 hours per day to online TV, versus 2.52 for "linear" TV. While the number isn't huge, it indicates that the market could be ripe to grow over the coming years.
Also, Netflix (Nasdaq: NFLX) was the number one choice of streaming TV service for Facebook users, with about one-fifth saying they were subscribers. Amazon (Nasdaq: AMZN) Video was second with 11 percent, BBC iPlayer and Hulu tied for third at 8 percent, and Vimeo was fifth at 7 percent.
