Nokia (NOK) Still Dominates WP8 User Base (MSFT)

Nokia (NYSE: NOK) is now, more than ever, the de facto handset of Microsoft (Nasdaq: MSFT) Windows Phone 8 (WP8) users.

According to AdDuplex, Nokia's share of WP8 is currently at 90 percent, from 75 percent at the start of 2013.

Topping the list is the Lumia 520, which has been the leading WP8 handset since last July. While the 520 has about 26.5 percent of the Windows Phone environment, it chontrols about 35.3 percent of the WP8 platformn.

Given the popularity of the 520, Nokia announced its successor in the Lumia 525. The next-gen device has a 1-GHz Qualcomm (Nasdaq: QCOM) Snapdragon processor and 1-GB of RAM.

Notably, WP8 makes up 75.3 percent of all Windows Phone users.

Data are from 2,087 Windows Phone apps which run AdDuplex SDK version 2 and only are counted if ads are viewed.

Shares of Nokia ended the session up around 1 percent.
