Nokia (NYSE: NOK) has already admitted to wanting to enter the tablet scene. But, the first tablet release from the Espoo, Finland-based mobile device giant might be met with a rough welcoming.
Reports have Nokia looking to launch a Microsoft (Nasdaq: MSFT) Windows RT tablet in September, tentatively September 26th, to be exact. The tablet -- codenamed "Vanquish" -- will run Qualcomm's (Nasdaq: QCOM) Snapdragon 800 processor, sport a 10.1-inch display, and have LTE capability. The tablet will be available through AT&T (NYSE: T).
Given that Microsoft reported taking a $900 million hit on "inventory adjustments" in its most recent quarter and current Windows RT offerings are seeing price cuts, would it make more sense for Nokia to hold off on a Windows RT tablet? Or will the introduction of Windows 8.1, which promises to be more user friendly, shift sentiment enough in the PC marketplace to round-up more demand for the OS?
Maybe the Vanquish will vanish as fast as it debuted.
Shares of Nokia are higher on Friday's session.
