'Mysterious' Microsoft (MSFT) Event Hints at Another Tech Giant's System...

When in Rome...

This better not be anything shy of amazing. As noted last week, Microsoft (Nasdaq: MSFT) is holding a surprise event for a "major" announcement later Monday. Scheduled for 7:00pm EDT, everyone writing a blog, news article, or tweet thinks Microsoft is going to unveil a Microsoft-branded tablet. But, what's even more interesting than the potential product is Microsoft's way of making the announcement.

Clearly, it reeks of Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL).

Tech reporters all over mentioned getting a "mysterious" invitation from Microsoft last week with the announcement. Invitations included nothing in the way of hints at what might be to come; no pictures, puns, euphemisms, nothing. In addition, Microsoft said it wouldn't disclose the location of the event until a few hours beforehand (the WSJ believes its Mile Studios in LA).

Apple pulled similar stunts in the past in sending out ominous invites to select media outlets, invitations garnished with only a few lines and/or a photo. Typically, Apple sent out word a few weeks in advance to build up anticipation. However, over the past several days, tech sites and news outlets have blown up with what "major" announcement Microsoft might have. Microsoft doesn't typically make major announcements. Nor does it hold mysterious events.

Just what kind of "Microsoft" is this, anyway?
