Microsoft's (MSFT) Exchange Deal v. 2.0: Now Offering More for Trade-Ins

September 18, 2013 5:23 PM EDT
Microsoft (Nasdaq: MSFT) really wants to get you out of that old Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) or Google (Nasdaq: GOOG) Android-based device and into a nice, comfortable Windows Phone/Tablet product.

Recently, it was observed that Microsoft would give a $200 towards the purchase of a new Windows Phone product if you turned in an old, working iPad tablet. The $200 return was the starting point and actual exchange value could go up from there.

Now, Microsoft is offering a $350 gift card on exchange of a much wider variety of devices. THe deal is being done in conjunction with Clover Wireless. According to the site's FAQ, here's how you get the deal:

Use the site to create your estimate and register your trade with Clover Wireless. Upon completion, instructions for packaging and mailing the device will be sent to your email address. Print the pre-paid shipping label and mail in your device, any required accessories, and the signed acknowledgement receipt within thirty days of when you receive your quote. Also include your Proof of Purchase documentation showing your purchase of a Microsoft device. The Microsoft device must have been purchased within thirty (30) days of the date you ship your old device. Once Clover Wireless verifies the item you're trading in matches your estimate and can validate your purchase of a new eligible Microsoft device, you will be issued the verified value. Allow sixty days to receive your credit, which will be in the form of a prepaid VISA card.

So, while its a little more stringent, it is quite a deal if you were curious about using a Windows Phone or Surface tablet, but didn't want to make a big financial commitment. With the Windows 8.1 update coming next month, it might be time to swap now before all the deals expire.

Shares of Microsoft finished up 1.2 percent Wednesday.
