Ford (F) Sees Strong Initial Demand for the Next-Gen F-150 Pickup (GM)

October 31, 2014 2:34 PM EDT

Ford (NYSE: F) is expecting initial sales of its next-generation F-150 pickup truck to be robust.

The WSJ said that Ford disclosed about 179,000 people going online and configuring the F-150 between September 25th and October 30th. Over 200,000 people are said to have given Ford their contact information to get more information about the 2015 F-150s when it becomes available.

Google Searches for the F-150 are also about double those for GM's (NYSE: GM) Silverado pickup.

Ford's latest F-150 was years in the making and will debut just as gasoline prices continue to hold below $3 in some parts of the country. The new truck utilizes an aluminum frame and some models will rely on a boosted V-6, not a traditional V-8, for power. It appears to not have dampened demand for the number one selling truck in the U.S.

Shares of Ford are up 1.3 percent Friday.
